You’re working feverishly on an important project. You are so focused on the clock, you forget to do something… save your work! Yikes. It’s OK though, what could happen, right? You work in a modern building, and there isn’t a dark cloud in the sky. In the six years you’ve been with the firm, you’ve never noticed a single issue with a power outage. You’re four hours into modifying that important PDF file, and you’re almost done. Just a few more adjustments, you’ll save the file and call it a day.
Awww… how cute. Your coworker brought her 3 year old to the office since her babysitter had an emergency. Little Timmy spots a glowing red switch on the floor. What a pretty shade of red. Timmy wonders if a train will blow its whistle if he presses the red button. Surprise! Timmy heard something blow, but it wasn’t a train’s whistle. It was YOU, blowing your stack over 4 hours of lost work.
Fortunately for you, Acrobat has a quiet feature that has been running without you even noticing. Auto-Save. Yes, like other software titles, Acrobat has an Auto-Save feature that has been saving your progress every 5 minutes for you. That interval can be adjusted (or disabled) by visiting Edit>Preferences, click on Documents on the left, and finding the Save Settings dialog.
Recovering lost changes is easy:
- Start Acrobat or open the file you were working on last.
- When prompted, click Yes to open the autosave file or files. If multiple files were open, Acrobat opens all of the files for you.
- Save the file or files with the same names as the files you were originally working on.
Whew – that was close. There you go… a feature of Acrobat that has options you may have not yet discovered. Interested in more? Acrobat crashed while I was working. I have it set to autosave every 5 mins, but when I re-opened the program, it did not prompt me to open the autosaved file. Where is that file? Can I open it manually?
